Park Cleanup was a Success!

Many thanks to all who came out this morning to clean the park. Between all of the kids, adults and even a few dogs, the park was cleaned in record time!

Special thanks to Frank Ruffalo and staff from JJP Community Centre for your help in getting the word out, ordering gloves and garbage bags, and lending a hand this morning.

A record 290 community groups registered to clean their parks and neighbourhoods this weekend as part of Clean Toronto Together, in addition to the hundreds of school and corporate groups who ran cleanups over the last few days. Click through read more, or find a cleanup near you!

Adopt-a-Tree 2014

We had a great turnout at our 2014 kickoff today! A crew of very enthusiastic volunteers spent the morning mulching all of the new trees. We filled and hauled about 300 buckets of mulch thanks to your muscle power!

Huge thanks to our Park Manager and city staff for organizing mulch delivery this week, and for providing shovels, gloves and pails today.

Special thanks to Giorgio and family from Frank's Pizza House (www.frankspizzahouse.com) for feeding us the best pizza in town!

Psssst...there's still time to adopt a tree for the season! If you are able to drop by the park about once a week to water a tree or two this summer, we'd love to hear from you: friendsofearlscourtpark@gmail.com

Adopt-a-Tree Kick-Off - June 7

Adopted a tree last summer? Or wished you had? We need your help!

The trees planted last year need one more summer's worth of mulching and watering as they are still establishing their healthy root systems.

We are looking for volunteers to help us mulch the trees on June 7th, and who will water "their" tree (or trees!) weekly this summer.

Meetup at 9.30am near the playground. Shovels and refreshments will be provided!

Please drop us a note at friendsofearlscourtpark@gmail.com to adopt a tree or learn more.

Spring Maintenance

Thanks to our park manager, you will be seeing some improvements in the park soon:

- a broken bench in the playground will be repaired,
- the playground will be roto-tilled
- the playground sandbox will be topped up with new sand
- more No Smoking signs will be installed around the playground entrances.
- garbage & recycling cans will be placed near the playground entrance and near the streetcar turnaround
- soap dispensers will be installed in the washrooms and kept full

In addition, a new cement pad has been created near the wading pool, to allow placement of a picnic table. The surrounding area has been roped off to allow new grass seed to sprout.

These little things will really add up to a better park experience for all!

Don't forget your water!

Look at that sky! With warmer temps here, BYO water to the park - fountains, dog park water & washrooms aren't open just yet.
